EUGENE, Ore. – Bushnell jump started their 2022 campaign on Saturday with four individuals punching their tickets for the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships.
Â
At the top of the leaderboard in the men's 3000m Steeplechase stood sophomore
Christopher Rosebrook. Winning the event by 38 seconds, Rosebrook cruised to a CCC qualifying time of 10:24.28 in his first-ever Steeplechase competition.
Â
Also competing in the Steeplechase for the first time was
Kaitlin Cook for the women. She was just four seconds off of the conference qualifier as well.
Â
For the men,
Taylor Huffman also qualified for conference in the javelin with a mark of 45.77m (150'2"). Head Coach
Tom Boldon said, "Taylor got us started in the field today and he has much more to go. Once he gets some things figured out, he is going to throw much farther."
Â
For the women,
Mayah Pappas provided a spark, claiming a conference qualification in the long jump with a second-place leap of 5.29m (17'4.25"). Fresh off of her sophomore campaign with the women's basketball team, Libby Mathis made her collegiate track & field debut and also qualified for conference. Her shot put of 10.43m (34'2.75") surpassed the CCC standard by one centimeter.
Â
"With some consistent training, Libby has a very bright future," said Boldon. She went out there today after just two throwing sessions and competed for the first time in three years."
Â
On Sunday,
Linus Rueegger is set to compete in the Shamrock Half Marathon with eyes on a potential NAIA qualification. After that it will be two weeks before the Beacons compete again, taking part in the Willamette Invitational.
Â
Boldon said, 'We had a number of athletes sit out today for health reasons. With a weekend off of competition to get people healthy, I am looking forward to seeing so many more athletes compete for the first time in this season at Willamette."
