Beacons Drop Two at Northwest Invitational

SALEM, Ore. - The Bushnell Beach Volleyball season resumed on Friday with the Beacons opening play at the Northwest Invitational, hosted by Corban University. The No. 1 team of Makenna Northern and Shay Coons picked up their first win of the season in the opening dual, which saw the Beacons fall to the hosts, 4-1. The University of Portland shutout Bushnell 5-0 in the second match.

"Everybody got better today," said head coach Kim Elgarico. "We took multiple matches to three sets and we can see the work we have put in is effective. We know that in order to get more wins we need to step up our intensity, but I am proud of our progress and I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do tomorrow."

Northern and Coons (pictured) improved to 1-2 on the season as a pair, defeating a different No. 1 team for the Warriors than they had seen previously. It was a three-set win that saw the pair win the first set and cruise to a 15-9 victory in the clincher. Camille Guerrero and Brooke Silvernail also won their first set in the No. 4 match-up, but couldn't complete the victory.
