OIT Pulls Away in Second Half

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon Tech used a 50-24 advantage in rebounds and forced 16 turnovers on its way to a 72-60 victory over Bushnell on Friday night in the Morse Center.

With the win, Oregon Tech (18-6, 15-1 CCC) holds its first-place spot in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings. The Owls used a 20-5 run through the first 10 minutes of the second half to go up 50-30 for their largest lead of the game and held a double-digit advantage the rest of the way.

Bushnell (8-16, 6-11) shot 42.9% from the field on the night but finished just 4-for-17 from beyond the arc. Isaac Girley recorded the first three-pointer for the Beacons with eight and a half minutes to go in the contest, scoring nine points in a four-minute span, but Bushnell was unable to get back in it.

Drayton Caoile finished with 14 points on 6-for-11 shooting to lead the Beacons in scoring. Girley recorded 11 points, all in the second half, making 3-of-5 from three-point range. Stevie Schlabach added nine points. Keishon Dawkins led the team in rebounds with seven on top of his seven points and three blocks.

Oregon Tech scored 44 points off the bench with 17 apiece from Kellen Gerig and Joey Potts. Gerig added 10 rebounds to record a double-double. OIT shot 40.6% from the floor and made 3-of-13 from three, both lower than the Beacons, but the Owls were locked in on defense. Their rebounding advantage included a 23-2 margin in offensive boards that they turned into 20 second-chance points.

Bushnell has just five games remaining in conference play and is just a game back of Northwest (7-10) and Multnomah (7-10), who are now tied for the eighth spot. The Beacons take on Southern Oregon tomorrow at 5 p.m. in the Morse Center.
