SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Corban University's Zackary Simon took a no-hitter into the ninth inning, spoiling the best combined pitching performance of the season for Bushnell as the Warriors claimed a 3-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.
The Beacons (0-11) gave up the fewest runs the have all season as starter
Abbott Haffar (0-2) and reliever
Ethan Paulson combined to strike out six batters and scatter nine hits.
Corban (6-3-1) did all of their scoring in the first inning, scoring three runs on back-to-back plays against Haffar. Once the redshirt-senior settled down, he cruised through four more innings, allowing just four more hits.
Paulson produced his strongest outing of the season in relief, giving up just two hits over the final four innings.
Simon (2-1) struck out nine Beacons and didn't allow a hit until a two-out triple from
Noah Montoya allowed Bushnell to avoid their first no-hitter of the new era. Simon has now struck out 25 batters in 19 innings on the season and has yet to allow an earned run.
Bushnell and Corban will play one more game on Sunday, scheduled for 11:00 am.
