– Trailing by six with 30 seconds to go, Bushnell hit a deep three, forced a turnover and made two big free throws all with under 20 seconds before
Stevie Schlabach drove in the go-ahead layup at the one-second mark to lift the Beacons to a 66-65 victory over Northwest in Friday night's men's basketball game.
Head Coach
Eddie Alexander said, "Really proud of how the guys kept battling out there tonight. Another very physical game where we weren't getting to the free throw line. I give Northwest a lot of credit. They struck to their game plan and CaCoa hit some big isolation shots for them. Guys really rallied and the bench was thoroughly engaged. Overall, a very huge team win, which was needed in a crazy difficult season for us."
Isaac Girley hit a deep three with 18 seconds on the clock to make it a three-point game. The Beacons made a stop when they needed it, forcing a turnover with 11.4 seconds to go to regain possession. The Eagles chose to foul the Beacons instead of allowing the potential game-tying shot, sending
Drayton Caoile to the line for a pair of free throws. Caoile made both to make it a 65-64 deficit for the Beacons.
Bushnell didn't waste any time fouling Northwest, who was unable to convert the one-and-one. Schlabach slipped by four defenders as he drove in the go-ahead basket. The Eagles final attempt from just in front of half court bounced off the back of the rim.
"We had several winning plays in a row that had to happen," said Alexander. "Isaac's clutch three, Luke causing a turnover, Dray hitting two big free throws, Stevie's clutch shot at the end and Logan sprinting back to challenge their desperation three. Keishon was a monster on the boards tonight and guys kept battling. Kaden was playing great defense until his broken nose."
Keishon Dawkins recorded another double-double for the Beacons, his second in a row. He posted 12 points and 20 rebounds. Schlabach finished with a team-high 14 points and added three assists. Caoile posted 12 points and Girley had 11 points, making 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.
CaCoa Chatman led all scorers with 19 points and eight assists on the night. Tre Newman finished with 12 points, while Rayvaughn Bolton recorded 10 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists.
Bushnell finishes out the season tomorrow evening, taking on The Evergreen State College at 5 p.m.
