Beacons Sweep Yotes for Convincing Win

CALDWELL, Idaho  – The Beacons bounced back in a big way on Saturday, posting a 25-14, 25-17, 25-15 win over The College of Idaho in CCC action for their eighth straight win over the Yotes.

The Beacons (13-8, 8-5 CCC) hit an impressive .348 on the night, held a 44-23 advantage in kills, 4-0 margin in blocks, and a 6-2 lead in service aces as they kept hold of their part of a three-way tie for third-place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.

"This team was ready to play this weekend," said head coach Jason Corwin. "I love their commitment to improve and willingness to take risks and challenge themselves. Tonight we had all phases of the game working at a high level. It was a real team performance from start to finish.

Shay Coons led the Beacon offense with a match-high 14 kills, Payton Jones hit .692 with nine kills and three blocks, and Callie Wilkins posted 17 digs and two aces to lead all players as the Bushnell seniors put their leadership on display. Makenna Northern registered 37 assists for better than a 12-assist-per-set average.

Northern said, "This team has been working really hard to come back and have a better second half of the season and I think that we showed a glimpse of that tonight. All around we played as a team and the result was a good win."

"Tonight was about maintaining our standard of play," added Coons. "We held consistent pressure and it was really fun to have the effort and support of every player on and off the court."

Jones said, "This was a great win for us. We viewed tonight as an opportunity to work on our side of the net and accomplish some team goals that we have been striving towards. We played consistently and everyone contributed. We are excited to see how this rolls over into our match against Corban on Wednesday.

The College of Idaho (5-15, 4-9) was held to a .064 attacking percentage, led by a nine-kill effort from Isabelle Combs. Analise Hitchcock posted 23 assists and Ali Carpenter recorded 16 digs.

It should be an exciting mid-week clash for the Beacons on Wednesday at 7:00 pm as they travel to Salem to take on No. 5 Corban (19-2, 12-1 CCC). The Warriors will be coming in after upsetting No. 1 Eastern Oregon on Saturday night, ending the Mounties 19-match winning streak and jumping into a tie for the Cascade Conference lead.
