SALEM, Ore. – A strong traveling student section, including Beacon mascot "Iggy", provided a boost but wasn't quite enough to lift Bushnell to an upset as they fell on the road to No. 3 Corban on Wednesday night in four sets, 25-15, 25-14, 21-25, 25-13.
Head Coach
Jason Corwin said, "It is always better walking into a hostile environment and seeing Beacons in the stands supporting us. We appreciated their support tonight, loudly cheering the entire time!"
The Beacons (13-9, 8-6 CCC) held an 11-9 advantage in blocks, but couldn't contain the powerful pin-hitting attack of the Warriors (20-2, 13-1) as Corban hit .270 in route to their 13
th-straight win.
"We had good moments tonight, but couldn't sustain any pressure on Corban," said Corwin. "They played like a top team."
Shay Coons led the Beacon offense with a team-high 10 kills.
Payton Jones added seven kills, hitting .263. The senior added six total blocks and her five block-assists bring her to within six of setting a new Bushnell career record.
Makenna Northern added 27 assists while
Callie Wilkins posted a team-best 11 digs.
Corban was led by Rylee Troutman and Avari Ridgeway, combining for 33 kills. The Beacons managed just 32 as a team.
With their second loss against an NAIA Top-3 team in four five days firmly in the rear-view mirror, the Beacons will look to get back on track this weekend as they wrap a seven-match road trip in Portland, taking on Multnomah (2-11) on Friday and Warner Pacific (1-12) on Saturday.
