PORTLAND, Ore. – The Bushnell volleyball team, currently receiving votes in the NAIA national coaches poll, rebounded from a loss to No. 3 Corban, defeating Multnomah University on Saturday, 25-19, 25-14, 25-13.
Â
The Beacons (14-9, 9-6 CCC) dominated the contest, hitting .310 with just 11 attack errors in the match. They out-blocked the Lions (2-12, 2-12) 6-4, held a 58-45 edge in digs and posted three service aces without getting aced themselves.
Â
"Multnomah came out with a ton of energy tonight," said head coach
Jason Corwin. "They were passing well, digging a lot of our hard-driven balls. We adjusted, found a rhythm, and then kept out pressure consistent. We are working on some things and we definitely saw some improvement tonight."
Â
Senior Middle Blocker
Payton Jones led the attack, hitting .727 in the match with nine kills, adding three blocks. "We started out a little slow tonight," she said, "but once we found a rhythm in serving we had the opportunity to have some fun. Multnomah passed really well so we had to be relentless with our swings, but we had some really well-placed hits."
Â
Shay Coons posted match-highs with 17 digs and 12 kills, hitting .321.
Matty Ladd hit .357 with seven kills and
Jessica Northcutt (pictured) collected eight kills, bringing her career total to 497. She will have the opportunity to become the fourth Bushnell hitter this season to cross the 500-kill milestone on Saturday evening as the Beacons remain in Portland to face Warner Pacific at 5:00 pm.
