Carter Makes History as Indoor Season Begins

COMPLETE RESULTS

NEWBERG, Ore. and PORTLAND, Ore. – Bushnell competed in Indoor Track & Field for the first time in two years on Saturday, and Jaron Carter wasted little time in making history at the "Portland Indoor Two" event with the first day taking place at George Fox University and the second at the University of Portland.

The junior made his season debut in the 60m dash at George Fox on Saturday and broke his own school record during the prelims, breaking seven seconds for the first time as he hit a 6.90. In addition, he becomes the first Bushnell athlete ever to hit an NAIA "B" standard in indoor competition. Carter went on to the finals where he finished third, running a 7.22. He was the second collegiate finisher.

Carter was also the second collegiate finisher in the 200m in Portland on Sunday, coming in at 23.24.

Making her Bushnell debut was freshman Maddi Desemone, running in the 60m and 200m. Desemone ran an 8.24 in the 60m prelims and then took third-place in the finals, improving her time to 8.23. She was the only Cascade Collegiate Conference runner in the finals. In the 200m, she took fifth (28.44), was the top CCC finisher and second among non-Division I runners.

Another third-place finish came in the Long Jump as Mayah Pappas flew 5.10m. Also competing was Carina Haas, who finished 13th (4.08m). Pappas went on to take sixth place in the 400m event on Sunday (1:06.20).

Head Coach Tom Boldon said, "This weekend was a good start to the season. Maddi overcame some early jitters to qualify for the 60m finals, Jaron really got out quick in his races, and Mayah looked really good. For Jaron to run this fast in his first race of the season, in a very cold facility, only shows what could be on the horizon. We are excited to see him race tomorrow and again at the University of Washington Invite that he qualified for next week."

Next up for the Beacons will be Portland Indoor Three, taking place on February 5 back at the Chiles Center at the University of Portland.
