CALDWELL, Idaho – The Bushnell women's soccer team put an end to College of Idaho's five-match shutout streak, but couldn't come out with a victory as they fell 3-1 on Saturday.
Â
The Beacons (2-6, 0-3 CCC) were peppered on defense all afternoon, but held their own as the Yotes out-shot them, 38-7. 21 shots on goal equated to an incredible 18 saves for Bushnell keeper
Anabel Mendez (pictured), breaking a school record which had stood since 2013.
Â
The College of Idaho (7-2, 4-0) struck first, getting on the scoreboard in the seventh minute. The Beacons had an answer in the 16th minute as
Blake Danna took a pass from
Bella Hernandez and scored from 20 yards out for the equalizer.
Â
The game remained tied until late in the second half when the Yotes finally broke through in the 69th minute. They added an insurance goal just four minutes later.
Â
"I am really proud of the girls," said head coach
Benny Flores. "They played with conviction and heart tonight against a very good College of Idaho team. They are one of the best in the conference and we were in the game until the end. I really like the way the ladies are developing and we are looking forward to playing at home next weekend."
Â
Bushnell comes home on October 1 for the first of six straight games at Les Schwab Sports Park as they will face off with Multnomah University (1-4, 0-3) at 3:00 pm.
