CORVALLIS, Ore. - A select group of Beacons were chosen to compete this weekend at the Oregon State High Performance Meet and leading the way was a competitor making her collegiate debut.
Sophomore Shay Coons, fresh off an appearance at the NAIA National Tournament with the Bushnell volleyball team, wasted no time making an impact for the track & field team. Coons not only qualified for the CCC championship in the javelin on her very first throw, she did herself one better on her third throw, launching 39.82m to secure the provisional "B" standard for the NAIA championships. She is the first Beacon this season to do so.
While no other new conference qualifiers were hit over the weekend, there were still numerous strong performances and improvements for Bushnell.
For the women,
Aneykah McCall impressed as she took four seconds off of her 1500m time on Friday (5:20.43), and then took two seconds off her 800m time on Saturday (2:27.33).
Adrienne Mai hit a personal best in the 200m at 27.26.
The men saw four time improvements as well.
Shawn Johnson posted a season-best 22.96 in the 200m, while
