Beacons Close Weekend with New Qualification

OREGON RELAY RESULTS | LINFIELD INVITATIONAL RESULTS

EUGENE, Ore. – Freshman Nathan Wirth added his name to the list of Cascade Collegiate Conference qualifiers on Saturday morning, qualifying in the pole vault at the Linfield Invitational. Bushnell competed at both Linfield and the Oregon Relays over the weekend.

Wirth's 3.65 meter vault was the highlight for the Beacons in McMinnville, as he became the seventh men's track & field athlete to qualify for the CCC Championships with a sixth-place finish.

Fresh off of his new school record in the Discus on Friday at the Oregon Relays, senior Logan Oakerman (pictured) had another strong performance on Saturday, winning the discus by two feet to top a 17-person field.

Jaron Carter gave another strong performance on Saturday at the Oregon Relays, taking second-place in the 100m dash. He was one of just two runners to break 11 seconds, coming in at 10.96. He was defeated by one runner from the University of Oregon but defeated another Duck, along with four other Division I athletes.

Being smack dab in the middle of Tracktown USA has many benefits for the Bushnell University track & field program, and one of those benefits came into focus on Friday night as five select Beacons qualified to compete for the first time at the renovated Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.

Oakerman competed in both the Discus and Shot Put for the Beacons. He topped his discus standard with an opening throw of 47.13 meters, jumping to second place on the Cascade Collegiate Conference performance list. He missed hitting the NAIA "B" qualification standard by just 18.5 inches.

Oakerman took seventh-place in a stacked field in the discus. Later on, he was the top collegiate finisher in the shot put, beating two throwers from the University of Oregon. He finished second overall with a best toss of 13.92m.

While not a school-record, Carter had an impressive showing in the 200m on Friday with a season-best time of 22.13. He won his heat and took seventh overall, jumping from No. 5 to No. 3 on the CCC performance list.

Next up for the Beacons will be Oregon State High Performance Meet next weekend, for those who hit their stringent qualification standards.
