Martin Claims Blocking Triple Crown in Bushnell Win

EUGENE, Ore.  – Senior Natalie Martin set a new career record for solo blocks on Saturday, giving her the Bushnell lead for all-time solo blocks, block assists, and total blocks. She added a match-high 11 kills as the Beacons swept Multnomah, 25-10, 25-13, 25-15.

The Beacons (11-5, 7-5 CCC) claimed their third straight win and remain tied for third in the Cascade Collegiate Conference on the strength of nine service aces and nine blocks, along with a .319 attack percentage.

Martin hit 11-for-15 in the game with two errors for a .600 hitting clip, adding four blocks. Her second solo block came midway through the third set. She became the second senior in as many days to break a career record, joining Claire Salness who topped the career attack attempts list on Friday.

Jessica Northcutt added nine kills and Halle Neumann had eight for the Beacons. Callie Wilkins led all players with 13 digs and Makenna Northern posted another strong line with 37 assists, ten digs, three aces and three kills. The junior is now hitting just under .200 and has not committed an attack error since February 20.

Head Coach Jason Corwin said, "We challenged the team to score points tonight, to be efficient and to balance smart with aggressive plays and they delivered. We kept the ball away from their libero and it made a difference."

The Lions (0-12, 0-12 CCC) were led by Danae Stokes with seven kills and seven digs. Rachel Bailey added 19 assists while Kamaile Labanon and Jahnay Jardine collected two blocks apiece.

Martin now has 58 solo blocks, 236 block assists and 294 total blocks in her career, which are all Bushnell all-time highs. She said, "I am so thankful to have completed this record that I've been working towards the last four years. I could not have done it without the support of my teammates, coaches, husband, and family. Although I am proud of my accomplishments, I am so grateful for all the people who have helped me achieve my goals. This last season has been amazing despite the circumstances and I am so excited to see where the rest of our season goes."

"This weekend was highlighted by two of our seniors taking career records for Bushnell," said Corwin. "It is a tribute to both Claire and Natalie of all the hard work and dedication they have given to this program and University. Our seniors' legacy is established in elevating this program and helping set a new path and challenge for our future classes to try and better what they have established."

Bushnell moves on to close out the regular season at home next weekend, playing host to Warner Pacific University on Friday and Saturday.
