ASHLAND, Ore. – As the Bushnell University track & field team closed out the Southern Oregon University Invitational on Friday, a number of Beacons saw improvements from their opening weekend marks.
Â
For the women, Mikayala Rodriguez provided the biggest highlight, winning the High Jump competition with a career-high leap of 1.51 meters.
Adrienne Mai also improved her team-leading 200m time with a run of 27.67 seconds while
Sierra Janikowski improved her 100m Hurdle time (18.25)
Â
For the men,
Hunter Reininger improved his 200m time (23.04) while
Justin Rogers (pictured) shaved 0.45 seconds off his 110m Hurdle time (18.71).
Â
On Thursday, Reininger provided the Beacons with one new Cascade Collegiate Conference qualifying hitting a mark of 6.46 meters in the long jump. He was the event winner, jumping into first-place with his sixth leap. His distance was the best by a Beacon since 2016 and lands him at No. 9 on the top-ten list.
Â
Director of Track
Tom Boldon said, "Hunter saved his best jumps for last as he surpassed the conference standard on his final two jumps. I think he is really just getting started so I am excited to see how he progresses.
Â
Logan Oakerman continued his hot start, once again topping his school record in the shot put. This time he threw 13.16 meters, adding 7 ½ inches to the standard as he took third-place. He was the top finisher from the Cascade Collegiate Conference. "Logan continues to show how his hard work is paying off," said Boldon.
Â
Thursday's short session also included the men's 100m dash, which featured
Jaron Carter taking third-place with a time of 11.29.
Â
On the women's side the Beacons participated in the long jump and 100m race as well.
Adrienne Mai won the second heat in the 100m and came in sixth overall, finishing in 13.62.
Sarah Phillips (13.66),
Carina Haas (14.13) and
Sierra Janikowski made their event debut as well.
Â
Boldon said, "We had some great efforts in the 100 meters but the times don't reflect that because they were running into a strong head wind. Jaron continues to look very good, as does Adrienne."
