Physical Match Goes to Lions

PORTLAND, Ore. – A combined 53 fouls were called on Friday night and four players fouled out of the game as Multnomah University sent Bushnell University to their first CCC loss of the season, 99-92.

It was a hotly contested game from the jump with ten ties and six lead changes in the first 20 minutes. Bushnell build their biggest lead of the night, 63-56 early in the second half, but the Lions roared back, eventually took the lead and held off the visitors late.

Bushnell (3-4, 1-1 CCC) out-shot the Lions 52% to 44% and shot better from the free-throw line and behind the arc, usually MU's bread and butter. Unfortunately, the Beacons were plaqued by an 18-15 margin in turnovers, were out-rebounded 43-36 as they gave us 13 offensive boards, and suffered a 32-21 discrepancy in fouls. Three Beacon players fouled out of the game as the team was without starting point guard Drayton Caoile for the final ten minutes of the contest.

Stevie Schlabach led the way for the offense, scoring 25 points to lead all players. Freshman Jarrett Bryant came off the bench to score a new career-high 23, adding nine rebounds as he shot 9-for-10 from the field. Nico Wolff had a strong night in the post with 16 points while Caoile and Dillon Young added 12 points apiece.

Multnomah (5-5, 1-1) scored 44 points in the paint, led by Terin Johnson, scoring a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Tyrese Taylor, shooting 9-for-13, added 20.

The Beacons will look to rebound on Saturday when they head to Warner Pacific to take on the Knights at 5:00 pm. WPU fell to Corban on Friday and are also 1-1 in CCC action.
