Bushnell Drops Close Road Contest

VALLEJO, Calif. – Six Beacons reached double-digit scoring as visiting Bushnell University fell in a tight battle with Cal Maritime in Sunday afternoon's non-conference men's basketball game.

The Beacons saw an eight-point halftime lead disappear after the Keelhaulers used 14-0 run to open the second half. Bushnell held a 64-62 advantage with 11 minutes to go in what would be their last lead of the game. The remainder of the contest saw five ties with the Beacons unable to pull back ahead.

Stevie Schlabach led the Beacons with 18 points, posting his best line from deep this season, making of 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Dillon Young recorded a season-high 13 points, while shooting 3-of-4 from three on the afternoon.

Jarrett Bryant added 12 points and eight rebounds, while Luke Smith and Drayton Caoile finished with 11 points each. Logan Sand totaled 10 points and a season-high eight rebounds to put six Beacons in double figures.

Bushnell (3-7, 1-2 CCC) shot 46% from the field and 43.3% from three-point range on the afternoon, a wide improvement from last night's contest at UC Merced. The Keelhaulers made 49.3% from the floor and 41.7% from beyond the arc in a strong shooting day for both teams.

Cal Maritime (4-5) finished with just four turnovers, while Bushnell committed a season-low 12. Both sides secured 39 rebounds. Eric Norton led all scorers with 22 points for the Keelhaulers. Amil Fields posted a double-double, recording 19 points and 10 rebounds.

The Beacons are back to Cascade Collegiate Conference action this weekend, taking on Southern Oregon (Dec. 17) and Oregon Tech (Dec. 18) on the road.
