EUGENE, Ore. – Bushnell completed a season sweep of The College of Idaho on Friday night, once again sweeping the Yotes, 25-18, 27-25, 25-21 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.
Â
The Beacons (14-2, 10-2 CCC) also move into a tie for second-place with No. 13 Eastern Oregon University after the Mounties fell to No. 6 Corban University in five sets on Friday.
Â
The Beacons hit .221 and held a 44-34 advantage in kills despite being out-blocked 12-5.
Â
"Whenever we have this weekend series, we know we are in for a battle," said head coach
Jason Corwin. "College of Idaho is well coached and has a bunch of really good athletes. They had Austyn Mauzy back and it helped shore up their outside group, so we knew we had our work cut out for us. We can put a great game plan in place, but the players have to go out there and make the adjustments on the floor and they did tonight."
Â
The Yotes (8-12, 5-7) were led by Leyah de Souza with seven kills and six blocks, hitting .467 without any errors as the team hit .170 as a unit. Jade Warren added six kills and a match-high with eight blocks. Isabelle Combs added 14 digs and Sydnee Steel posted a team-leading 15 assists.
Â
Bushnell had another strong night from
Shay Coons, leading all players with 12 kills.
Halle Neumann added eight kills, hitting .438, and
Jessica Northcutt collected nine.
Makenna Northern registered a match-high 34 assists, adding four kills, four digs and two blocks.
Â
Senior Libero
Callie Wilkins posted 17 digs and added three of Bushnell's seven service aces. Coach Corwin said, "Callie did a great job tonight reading their hitters and being in the right position to make plays. Her passing was on point and three aces were just fantastic."
"Tonight was a good win for us," said Wilkins. "We knew we had to win the serve-and-pass game and we executed the game plan well. We were excited to be back on our home court and we came out with a lot of energy. When we found ourselves in a hole, we were able to come together and figure it out."
Â
Sole possession of second-place in the CCC will be on the line on Saturday as Bushnell hosts Eastern Oregon (15-5, 10-2 CCC) at 5:00 pm.
