Win Streak Ends at Hands of No. 13 Mounties

EUGENE, Ore.  – No. 13 Eastern Oregon University took down Bushnell volleyball on Saturday night, ending a school-record 14-game home winning streak for the Beacons.

Bushnell (14-3, 10-3 CCC) held advantages in nearly every statistical category, 52-43 in kills, 8-5 in service aces, 67-51 in digs, but is was not enough to overcome the timely and efficient offense of the Mountaineers (16-5, 11-2 CCC) as EOU hit .169 to the .152 clip of the Beacons.

"It was all about peaks and valleys tonight," said head coach Jason Corwin. "We scored more points than they did and that doesn't happen very often in a loss. We are doing so many good things but we aren't doing those really good things at the end of sets. When we get comfortable doing that, we can beat anybody."

Junior setter Makenna Northern piled up the stat sheet, ending the night with 42 assists, 12 digs, five service aces, four kills and three blocks. "We wanted to win so bad," said Northern. "They are one of those teams that everyone wants to beat and I think that got to us tonight. They played more consistent and made less errors."

Defensively, freshman Matty Ladd had a hand in six of Bushnell's nine blocks and added five kills. Senior Callie Wilkins had another big night in the back row, collecting a match-high 22 digs while freshman Bella Parque added 11 and junior Cambria Lingenfelder picked up nine.

Offensively, junior Shay Coons was busy on the attack for Bushnell, taking nearly a third of all swings for the Beacons and collecting a match-high 17 kills. Halle Neumann added eight kills and Jessica Northcutt chipped in seven. Coons said, "Even though we battle well, we can't afford the holes that we dug for ourselves tonight. I am excited for our team to fine tune some things and show up for our next match against another tough team."

The Beacons return to action on Tuesday, playing host to No. 6 Corban University at 7:00 pm.
