PORTLAND, Ore. - Multnomah University completed their first-ever season sweep of the Beacons as every offensive weapon played a part in a 118-89 victory.
When the teams faced off in Eugene in January, it was senior Justin Martin who dominated the game from start to finish, scoring an NAIA Division II record 74 points in a double-overtime victory. On Friday, four different players had at least four three-pointers including nine from an unlikely source as they hit 25 triples and never let NCU back into the game after it was close early.
Martin ended up with his standard 36 points, shooting 7-for-18 from three-point range and was a huge factor in the second half. Reserve Grant Balvanz, however, had it going from the beginning, shooting 9-for-15 from outside for 28 points. Forrest Smith added 19 points and 13 rebounds while Trey Fountain scored 12 points and eight assists. Multnomah (14-13, 7-10) shot 53% in the game and out-rebounded the Beacons, 45-31.
Northwest Christian (14-13, 9-8) had shot 60% in the first half but cooled off significantly over the final 20 minutes, finishing with a 48.7% clip. They were 11-for-29 from three-point range.
DyShawn Hobson led the way with four three-pointers and 18 points, adding seven assists.
Riley Anderson (pictured) had a big night off the bench, shooting 6-for-7 with three triples for 15 points.
Logan Davis contributed 13 points and led the team with eight assists
The Beacons return to action on Saturday night against Warner Pacific in a battle for fifth-place in the CCC. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
