Eugene, Ore – A made basket with less than three seconds left by
Logan Davis propelled the Northwest Christian University men's basketball team to a win on Tuesday, defeating conference rival Corban University, 86-84.
The Beacons (11-11, 6-6 CCC) used a balanced attack to take down the Warriors (10-14, 4-10). Four players tallied double digit scoring evenings. Freshmen
Stevie Schlabach led the charge with 15 points, both
Kaden Sand and
Logan Davis added 14, and
Ernest Ugoagu contributed 11 points of his own.
Corban also had four double digit scorers, led by Junior Mauricio Smith who had a game high 25 points. Tyler Wadleigh scored 16, while AJ Hodges and Jason Smarr added 12 points each for the Warriors.

A back and forth battle that was close the entire way, neither team could put together that one run that put their opponent away. The largest lead of the game was held by Corban late in the first half when they led by 11, but the Beacons answered by closing out the first half on an 11-0 run and tied the game at 48 going into halftime.
The second half was a continuation of the first, both teams going back and forth needing someone to step up and deliver. That person was NCU Senior
Logan Davis. With less than 10 seconds left in the game and the ball in his hands, Davis created space, drove the lane, and finished a lay-in with his left hand to put the Beacons up by two.
Corban did have an opportunity to answer or win at the buzzer but couldn't capitalize on a last second three point attempt by Smith.
The Beacons will look to keep their momentum going this Friday and Saturday when they host Walla Walla University (6-16, 4-8) for a two game weekend series.
