Rasubala Qualifies for NAIA Return

4/6/2019 10:54:00 PM

MONMOUTH and McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Junior Anika Rasubala posted an automatic qualifying mark for the NAIA National Championship on Friday, leading the Beacons as they competed in a pair of events over the weekend.

Rasubala ran the second-fastest time of her career, clocking in at 11:09.23 to take second place in the 12-woman race at the John Knight Twilight, hosted by Western Oregon University. She joins seniors Cass Brownell and Conner Covey as a third NAIA qualifier for the Beacons this season in the Steeplechase.

Rasubala wasn't the only athlete to make a splash over the weekend. Friday also included a new school record in the 4x100m relay and on Saturday two new athletes earned Cascade Conference qualifications at the Jenn Boyman Invitational at Linfield College.

Halona Jackson, Jordyn Edewards, Abigail Spencer, and Savannah Proske took a full second off of the school 4x100m relay record, coming in at 48.78 seconds. The Beacons took third-place and missed an NAIA "B" qualification by just 46/100ths of a second. The same team went on to win the race on Saturday at Linfield.

On Saturday, senior Myranda Johnson booked her ticket to the conference tournament in the 400m hurdles as she ran a 1:13.52. She will be joined by junior Megan Van Marter who made her 2019 season debut a good one, hitting 1.49m on the high jump.

The Beacons will be back in action this weekend in a "CCC Preview" of sorts as they head to the Southern Oregon Invitational and the site of next month's Conference Championships.
