Conference Roster Grows at Pair of Meets

4/27/2019 11:42:00 PM

EUGENE, Ore. – With the regular season winding down, the Beacons aren't done adding members to the 2019 Cascade Conference Track & Field roster. Two new names were added to the list and one more qualification was added for another.

Sophomore Moriah Duenich shaved ten seconds off her personal record in the 1500m, and in the process qualified for CCC with a time of 4:54.05.

Making her season debut, freshman Cori Sanders wasted no time in qualifying for the discus with a 34.78m toss.

Savannah Proske, having already scored points for the Beacons at the CCC Multi-Event championship, added her NCU-record sixth individual event qualification with a javelin throw of 31.20m.

Also completing a strong weekend were senior Emily Moon and junior Halona Jackson. Moon improved her personal record in the 800m, breaking 2:20 for the first time (2:19.18) with the seventh-fastest time in school history. Jackson topped her 200m PR with a time of 26.22.

The biggest improvement of all, however, came from junior Anika Rasubala. Already an NAIA automatic qualifier for the Steeplechase, she took nearly eight seconds off her personal record. Crossing the finish line in 11:01.50, her time was the fastest in the CCC and NAIA this season. Perhaps the most competitive event on the women's side, seven of the top eight runners in the NAIA come from the Cascade Collegiate Conference.

NCU also had the bulk of their throws contingent competing in the Boise State Border Clash, which yielded a season-best 37.11m throw for freshman Cali Allen in the javelin.

The Beacons will conclude the regular season next weekend with a pair of "Last Chance" opportunities to hit conference qualifications. Members of the team will compete on Friday at the University Portland Twilight and on Saturday at the Linfield Open.
