FOREST GROVE, Ore. – A pair of distance runners and the 4x100m relay team took home event win on Saturday as the Beacons competed in the Pacific Preview.
Â
Junior
Andy Martinez topped a 19-runner field in the 800m, coming in at 1:59.64 to win the event and miss a CCC qualification by just two seconds. Â
Â
Senior
Conner Covey claimed the other individual event title, winning the 5000m race by 11 seconds over teammate
Carson Bain
Â
The 4x100m relay team, featuring three members of the All-Conference squad from last season, won their event by two tenths of a second.
Nicolas Delgado,
Antonio Campos-Perez,
Josh McCluskey, and
Shawn Johnson ran a 42.88, the second fastest time in the conference.
Â
The runners took event champions but it was in the field events that three Beacons broke through with the first Cascade Collegiate Conference qualifications of 2019. Sophomore transfer
Brevin Russnogle made a great impression in his Beacon debut, qualifying twice for the CCC championships.
Â
Russnogle took second-place in the Triple Jump (13.03m) and posted the second-longest jump in school history. He also qualified in the long jump (6.37m) and became the second-longest jumper in that events' history for the Beacons, behind Javonte Byrd who owns the other nine top-ten jumps.
Â
Senior
Michael Andrews grabbed a conference qualification in the Pole Vault, clearing 4.24m for the second-highest mark in NCU history behind his own school-record of 4.30m.
Â
The final conference mark went to sophomore
Logan Oakerman who will return to CCC in the shotput.
Â
The Beacons will be back in action next weekend, traveling to compete in the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open.
