McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The NCU outdoor track season got off to an early start this weekend with a pair of runners in the 10000m race at the Linfield Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker.

While the race comes one week before the official NAIA-sanctioned start to the season, and the times cannot count toward conference or national qualifications, the race provided an opportunity for two NCU runners to successfully hit a qualifying mark for the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in Hayward, California on March 28th.

Sophomores Jacob Truitt and Carson Bain (pictured) competed in the 31-runner event with Truitt taking seventh place and Bain finishing 13th.

Truitt, coming into the track season as a reigning All-Cascade Conference cross country runner, competed in his first-ever 10000m race and came across the finish-line in 32 minutes, 29.01 seconds to grab the ninth-fastest time in school history. Truitt was third among collegiate runners as many top unattached and club athletes also competed.

Bain shaved more than a minute off of his personal record, coming in at 32:52.82 to finish seventh among collegiate competitors.

Both athletes did achieve marks that were below the conference qualifying standard and will look to officially land that mark in Hayward later this month.

The full NCU track & field team is set to begin the season next weekend when they head to the Pacific Preview in Forest Grove, Ore.
