HAYWARD, Calif. – Senior
Cass Brownell cleared the automatic qualifying mark for the NAIA National Championship on Thursday, kicking off the weekend for the Beacons at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic.
Â
Formerly known as the San Francisco State Distance Carnival, the Fanelli Classic has long been known for providing the best competition of the season and yielding strong results and this rendition was no different. Brownell finished 31st in the 51-runner field, coming in at 11:15.46. Her time is the third-fastest in the CCC this season and ranks No. 5 in the NAIA.
Â
Also providing a highlight was junior
Christy Seaton who toppled her own school-record in the 100m hurdles on Friday, taking fifth place. She was the second collegiate finisher and ran a 15.08 to shave 17/100ths off of her previous record set last season.
Â
Earlier in the week another school-record was broken when
Savannah Proske scored 3800 points in the Heptathlon at the Lewis & Clark Multi Event.
Â
Another CCC qualification was hit on Thursday night when
Melissa Rios qualified in the 10000m event (39:05.93).
Â
The Beacons are set to return to action later this weekend with two events. On Friday they head to Western Oregon for the John Knight Twilight and Saturday will see them participate in the Jenn Boyman Invitational at Linfield College.
