3/30/2019 10:32:00 PM

HAYWARD, Calif. – Senior Conner Covey cleared the automatic qualifying mark for the NAIA National Championship on Thursday, kicking off the weekend for the Beacons at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic.

Formerly known as the San Francisco State Distance Carnival, the Fanelli Classic has long been known for providing the best competition of the season and yielding strong results and this rendition was no different. Covey was the top CCC finisher in the event and was fifth among NAIA competitors, running a lifetime PR of 9:23.90 for the seventh-fastest time in Beacon history.

Three other gentleman added their names to the Cascade Collegiate Conference qualifier list over the weekend. Micah Jury claimed a 16.50 finish in the 110m hurdles and has now qualified in both of the shorter barrier races. In the 10000m race, sophomores Jacob Truitt (32:19.22) and Carson Bain (32:52.82) both qualified. Truitt and Bain now rank third and fourth in the CCC respectively.

Junior Andy Martinez missed the conference standard by .01 seconds in the 800m as he ran a personal-record time of 1:57.58.

The Beacons are set to return to action later this weekend with two events. On Friday they head to Western Oregon for the John Knight Twilight and Saturday will see them participate in the Jenn Boyman Invitational at Linfield College.
