PORTLAND, Ore. – Senior Cass Brownell cleared the NAIA "B" standard in her first steeplechase of the season on Saturday, leading the Beacons at the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open.
 
Brownell, an NAIA qualifier last season, ran the event in 11 minutes, 22 seconds and missed the automatic national qualifying standard by just four seconds. Also running the event was junior Anika Rasubala who easily cleared the conference standard and missed the "B" mark herself by under two seconds, running an 11:31.68.
 
The distance ladies weren't along in qualifying for the conference championships as they were joined by three other ladies. Junior Myah Harter nailed the CCC standard in both the shotput (10.22m) and discus (34.13m). The school-record holder in both disciplines will now have the right to defend her All-CCC finish in the discus when the conference championships begin in May.
 
Also qualifying for conference were jumpers Danielle Buhler and Abigail Spencer. Buhler crossed the standard in the triple jump (9.72m) while Spencer broke the mark in the long jump (5.09m).
 
The Beacons are set to return to action next Saturday when they head to Salem to compete in the Willamette Invitational.
