Eugene, Ore- In game one of the Beacon Classic, undefeated #2 ranked Oregon Tech (8-0) defeated New Hope Christian College 99-49. The Owls had four players in double digits, shooting 54% from the field while holding the Deacons to just 30% along with outrebounding NHCC 59-23.
The Owls were led on both ends of the floor by sophomore Matt Van Tassell, who tallied 18 points and 13 rebounds. The lone bright spot for the Deacons was senior guard Jaylen Rose who led all scorers with 21 points.
In the second game of the Beacon Classic, the Northwest Christian University men's basketball team fell in their first game of the 2019 Beacon Classic on Friday night as they lost to William Jessup University 97-73.
The Beacons (1-5) were led by sophomore Malik Corey with a team-high 19 points, three steals and two assists. Freshman Kaden Sand added 17 points, three steals, two rebounds and two assists while Ernest Ugoagu and Stevie Schlabach added 10 a piece in the loss.
Senior Isaiah Milan had quite the night as he led the Warriors (5-1) with a game-high 28 points, seven assists, six rebounds and four steals. Luis Medaris posted a double-double with 13 points and a game-high ten rebounds while Erik Kinnebrew added 13 points and six rebounds off the bench. The Warriors held the Beacons to just a 41% shooting night along with forcing 20 turnovers.
The Beacon Classic will continue tomorrow at the Morse Event Center as William Jessup will take on Oregon Tech at 3pm and the Beacons will end the night as they host New Hope Christian College at 7:30pm.
