Beacons Rough Up New Hope to End Skid

EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University took care of cross-town foe New Hope Christian on Saturday night, 116-90, ending a four-game losing streak with a Beacon Classic closing win.
 
NCU shot 55% from the field and had six players score in double-figures as they posted the highest scoring total in the history of the series with the Deacons and the sixth-highest total in school history.
 
The Beacons collected 29 assists in the game and hit 13 three-pointers while holding NHCC to 42% shooting and a 7-for-19 effort from beyond the arch.
 
NCU (2-5) was led by Earnest Ugoagu, scoring 19 points as he tied for a team-high three treys. Stevie Schlabach had an incredible game off the bench as the freshman scored 16 points and added five assists and three blocks, both team-high numbers.
 
Logan Sand, Logan Davis, and Kaden Sand each had 12 points while Riley Anderson added ten. NCU went deep as 14 players got on the court and none played more than 27 minutes. The Beacon reserves out-scored their New Hope counterparts, 56-46.
 
New Hope (4-11) were led by Jalen Rose and Robert Knox with 28 points each. Rose had just four points at halftime. Both players also owned double-doubles and Knox recorded a game-high 11 rebounds. Knigel Key added 16 points while Malcolm Hudson chipped in ten.
 
In the other Beacon Classic game on Saturday, No. 2 Oregon Tech (9-0) topped William Jessup, 97-70. The Owls shot 56% from three-point range and out-rebounded the Warriors 44-18 with 11 offensive boards.
 
OIT was led by Mitchell Fink, scoring 27 points with seven rebounds and seven assists. Seth Erickson added 20 points while Matt Van Tassell came off the bench to score 19 with a game-high eight rebounds.
 
William Jessup (6-2) was led by Jordan Johnson, scoring 24 points.
 
Northwest Christian will be back in action on Tuesday night as they play host to Northwest Indian College at 7 p.m.
