EUGENE, Ore. – After losing three straight games the Northwest Christian University men's basketball team found redemption on Saturday night, returning to their bread-and-butter as they hit 15 three pointers, collected 19 assists and had ten steals in a 90-77 victory over Evergreen State.
Â
The Beacons (16-6, 8-5 CCC) gave up the first four points of the game but back-to-back treys from
Riley Anderson and
Austin Tyner lifted NCU to an early lead and they never looked back. NCU shot 48% in the game but were 15-for-35 from three-point range and forced 19 Evergreen turnovers.
Â
Evergreen (5-16, 1-12) shot 42% in the game and after going 0-for-8 from outside the arch in the first half, ended up shooting just 4-for-16 on the night. The Geoducks did out-rebound NCU 44-29 and hauled in 14 offensive rebounds.
Â
Ten different Beacons saw the court for at least ten minutes on Saturday but the bulk of the scoring still came from the starting lineup.
Reece Robinson led NCU and tied for the game-high with 20 points, adding seven rebounds, three steals and two assists. He was one of five NCU players to hit multiple three-pointers in the game, going 3-for-6 from outside. His night was highlighted by an emphatic dunk midway through the second half.Â
Â
Tyner also went 3-for-6 from three-point land and finished with 15 points. His four steals give him 52 on the season. He leads the CCC and ranks fourth in the NAIA, averaging 2.6 steals per game.
Tyrus Hosley had a strong night for the Beacons as well, scoring 14 points with six assists and three steals.
Â
The Geoducks were led by Malik Redmond, scoring 20 points and he shot 9-for-12 from the field. Ryan Quigley added 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds, getting six on the offensive glass. Mana Niu came off the bench to score eleven while Jared Roffler added ten.
Â
Northwest Christian, once again alone in third-place in the CCC, will hit the road next weekend for games against Warner Pacific University on Friday and Multnomah on Saturday. The Knights knocked off NCU in Eugene earlier this month.
Â
Evergreen returns home and will take on No. 4 College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon University.
