EUGENE, Ore. – Shooting 55% in the second half, the Northwest Christian University men's basketball team erased a 15-point deficit and rallied to top Warner Pacific University on Friday night, 95-82.
Â
The win gives the Beacons a season split with the Knights after WPU defeated NCU earlier this season in Eugene. The win also moves NCU to 17-7 on the season and 9-5 in the CCC. Warner Pacific falls to 14-10, 5-8 on conference play.
Â
A Jalen Ballard three pointer with 16-minutes remaining in the second half put the Knights on top, 58-43. Sparked by the scoring combination of
Tyrus Hosley and
Logan Davis and utilizing a stalwart defensive effort, the Beacons gradually closed the gap, bringing it to within six points on three free-throws from Hosley, 63-57 with 12 minutes to play.
Â
Later, trailing 74-68, the Beacons got consecutive three-pointers from Davis to tie the game and two more triples from Hosley to fuel a 14-1 run as NCU went ahead by seven, 82-75 with four minutes remaining. Warner Pacific never got closer than five the rest of the way.
Â
Hosley led the Beacons with 29 points, scoring 20 in the second half. He hit four three-pointers and added a game-high seven assists.
Austin Tyner (pictured) followed with 16 points while Davis came off the bench to score 13, his highest total of the season by far.
Â
Head Coach
Eddie Alexander said, "Logan was a huge spark defensively in the second half and then made WPU pay for leaving him open outside. He is always one of our best defenders but we've been waiting for Logan to have a total game like this. He was the spark we needed."
Â
Warner Pacific was led by Collin Malcolm, scoring 20 points and nine rebounds. Brandon Bell added 16 points off the bench and Khiry Williams scored 14. Â Terrance Wienecke finished the night with a double-double, scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds. Wienecke had seven rebounds on the offensive glass as the Knights collected 15 as a team and out-rebounded the Beacons 44-41.

Northwest Christian returns to action on Saturday night, traveling across town to take on Multnomah University at 7:30 pm.
