Hermiston, Ore. – Last season the NCU men's track & field team brought home a record six All-Cascade Collegiate Conference medals from the CCC championships. This weekend they did it again.
Â
Highlighting the weekend was senior
Garrett Kraal who took second-place in the 1500m run on Friday and third-place in the 5000m championship on Saturday. He earned double-All-conference for the second year in a row. His pair of honors also brought his career total to eight, passing Sierra Brown for the NCU record for most career All-CCC plaudits.
Â
Another repeat All-CCC performer was senior T.J. Wright (pictured). Wright, the 2016 Steeplechase Champion, went toe-to-toe with 2017 champion Kevin Poteracke from Southern Oregon. Poteracke nosed out Wright at the finish line by just six one-hundredths of a second, but that did nothing to diminish Wright's return to the podium for his third career All-conference nod.
Â
The distance men weren't alone with their second-place finishes. Also taking a runner-up spot was the men's 4x100m relay team which closed out their season with another school record.
Dominic Cantu,
Antonio Campos-Perez,
Matt Jones, and
Nicolas Delgado shaved off another .04 seconds to come across in 41.69.
Â
Jones added a second All-CCC nod with a third-place finish in the 200m dash.
Â
Rounding out the All-Conference performances was redshirt freshman
Aaron Hackney who claimed third-place in the javelin with his final throw of 56.73. The Beacons ended up with 11 points in the event as Aaron's brother, senior
Christian Hackney, also scored with a fourth-place finish (55.78m).
Â
The Beacons finished the weekend with 70 points, missing their record from last season by one. The team also earned their third-straight sixth-place finish. Eastern Oregon won the championship with 208 points, followed by Southern Oregon in second (168) and Oregon Tech in third (144.5).
