EUGENE, Ore.. – Red-Shirt Freshman Aaron Hackney won the Javelin event at the Boise State Border Clash on Saturday, hitting the NAIA "A" standard to highlight a strong weekend for the Beacons at three different events.
 
Hackney threw a 57.63m to beat the 14-player field and defeated his brother Christian Hackney by six feet. Christian also hit a season-best and improved his NAIA "B" mark to 55.85m.
 
Meanwhile, at the Oregon State High Performance meet, the NCU distance squad produced a pair of impressive marks. Senior Garrett Kraal broke one of the oldest records in the book, running a 3:55.12 in the 1500m. His time was good enough to clear the NAIA "B" standard as he becomes NCU's first-ever national qualifier in the event. Senior TJ Wright also improved his 3000m Steeplechase time to 9:15.52 and now ranks No. 4 in the NAIA.
 
The OSU meet also produced a new conference qualification in the 200m for Dominic Cantu, sneaking under the standard by 11/100ths of a second with a 22.89.
 
A set of Beacons also competed at the Pacific Twilight on Friday night. Freshman Corban Phillips won the 5000m run by less than a second, edging the second place finisher by 0.34. Phillips ran a PR of 15:43.59. In the 3000m Steeplechase, junior Dan Carrier took third-place and hit the CCC standard with a run of 10:08.69. The Beacons now have four competitors in the conference Steeple.
