ROCKLIN, Calif. – After hitting 50% of their three-point attempts in Friday's upset win over Menlo, the NCU men's basketball team went 5-for-28 from deep on Saturday as they were knocked off by tournament host William Jessup, 89-76.
Â
The Beacons (2-2) were just 40% from the field and after leading for most of the first half, gave up the advantage late in the opening frame and never got it back. Jessup (3-1) shot just 43%, but hit 11 three-pointers while out-rebounding the Beacons 48-43. The Warriors also owned a 37-7 advantage in points off the bench.

Head Coach
Eddie Alexander said, "It was a tough loss tonight. It felt like we ran out of steam against William Jessup after our great game against Menlo. Coach Von Vogt has an excellent team and they showed their tremendous depth tonight. We are excited about some of the depth we found this weekend with two of our starters out both games due to injury and we are looking forward to the continued growth of our team."
Â
NCU was led in defeat by
Reece Robinson scoring 27 points including 24 in the second half. Robinson added a team-high 12 rebounds to complete the double-double.
Austin Tyner added 23 points and
Davonte Cleveland finished with 16 points and a game-high six assists.
Â
The Warriors (3-1) were led by Keith Phillips, scoring 30 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and two blocks, all team highs. Darrell Polee came off the bench to score ten.
Â
The Beacons will be back in action on Tuesday night, heading across town to take on New Hope Christian College.
