KIRKLAND, Wash. – Despite a furious second-half comeback attempt, the Northwest Christian University women's soccer team was edged in their conference opener by Northwest University on Friday night, falling 1-0.

NU's Jubilee Zevenbergen scored the game's only goal in the 21st minute, taking the rebound off a saved shot by Whitney Weaver and putting a six-yard strike in the back of the net.

The Eagles dominated the first part of the game and held a 14-3 advantage in shot attempts over the opening 45 minutes.

NCU never backed down and controlled the second half as they forced NU keeper Kat Sanchez into four saves, outshooting the Eagles 8-7.

Katie Hastings (pictured) finished her night with eight saves for the Beacons, a season high.

Northwest Christian will be back in action at 1:00 pm on Saturday, traveling to Olympia to take on The Evergreen State College.Â
