Beacons Shoot Past Geoducks

EUGENE, Ore.  – The Beacons shot 57% from three-point range in the second half on Friday night, shaking a hard charging Evergreen State College, 104-90 for their 12th straight win.
 
The Beacons (20-3, 13-2 CCC) hit 14-for-29 for the game from distance and had eight of their triples over the final 20 minutes. NCU also out-rebounded the Geoducks 32-30 and had just 11 turnovers in the game.
 
Five players were in double-figures for the visitors, led by another double-double by Jay Mayernik, scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. Kenny Blackwell added 15 points while Brock Rice and Jack Hackman scored 14 each. Brendyn Taylor (pictured) had ten points and led all players with seven assists.
 
The Geoducks (5-17, 2-14) were led by Dalton Groenewold who scored a game-high 24 points. Taylor Drey added 20 and Jonathan Jack-Nixon came off the bench to supply 13 points. Evergreen shot 48% in the game and was 82% from the free-throw line.
 
NCU has competed their second straight 20-win season, the first back-to-back 20-win campaigns since they had four consecutive from 1997-2001.
 
The Beacons return to the court tomorrow night, traveling to Kirkland to take on Northwest University at 7:30 pm.
