Beacons Rout Eagles in Season Opener

Eugene, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University men's basketball team kicked off the 2017-2018 season with a 113-69 win over visiting Northwest Indian College on Saturday.
 
NCU shot 54.2% for the game, sinking 45 field goals while going 11-25 from beyond the arc. The Beacons out-rebounded the visitors 53-39, including 14 on the offensive glass.
 
Sophomore Guard Brock Rice had a game high 19 points on the day, including a trio of three-point buckets. Reece Robinson (pictured) was next in line with 16 points to along with six rebounds. Michael Loomis scored 14 points while snagging seven rebounds. Davonte Cleveland, Spencer Mattox, and Austin Tyner each topped ten points while shooting over 50%. Tyrus Hosley and Tyner also had seven boards for the Beacons.
 
After being outscored 56-17 in the first half, Northwest Indian College scored just five less than NCU in the second. NIC had four players in double digits, shooting 33.8% on the day. Jalopi Pepper led with 11 points and three assists.
 
NCU is back in the Morse Event Center on Tuesday night when they host in-town rival New Hope Christian College at 7 p.m.
