Beacons Breeze by New Hope

EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University men's basketball team handled visiting New Hope Christian College easily on Tuesday night, winning by a final of 115-73 in the Morse Event Center. Michael Loomis had a double-double for the Beacons, scoring 21 points while pulling down ten rebounds.
 
NCU (2-0) shot 48.8% in the game while New Hope was just 36.4% from the field. The Beacons played rugged in the post, scoring 58 points in the paint and putting up 26 second chance points. The home side owned the boards as well, out-rebounding New Hope 65-36.
 
Kenny Blackwell came up just shy of a triple-double, scoring 13 points while dishing out eight assists and snagging eight rebounds. Center Malik Heptot played big inside, ending with thirteen points and eight off the glass. Brock Rice, Austin Tyner, Canyon Dwyer, and Reece Robinson all landed in double-digits for the Beacons. Tyner finished with a trio of three-pointers, to lead all players. Tyner and Davonte Cleveland posted three steals a piece in the win.
 
New Hope (0-1) had four players surpass ten points, with Isiah Large scoring a team-high 16 while going 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. Aaron Proctor had nine rebounds for the Deacons, all on the defensive end.
 
The Beacons are back in the MEC on Sunday, October 22 for their annual Alumni Game, which will welcome back 2017 CCC Athlete of the Year Jay Mayernik. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. tip.
