HERMISTON, Ore. – Sophomore
TJ Wright held true to his top-ranking in the Steeplechase on Friday afternoon, winning the CCC title as the conference championships got underway at Hermiston HS.

Wright becomes the first ever CCC Champion for the NCU men's program as well as the first All-CCC finisher, given to the top-three competitors in each event.

Wright was neck-and-neck with the eventual second-place finisher for most of the race but pulled away on the back straight away of the final lap and finished with a four-second victory (9:24.91).

Freshman
Conner Covey also scored points for the Beacons with a sixth-place finish, running a 9:55.51.

The men's 4x100m team out-performed their ranking. Coming in as the No. 7 seed, the Beacon squad of
Josh Chesnut, Antonio Campos,
Micah Jury and
Michael Andrews claimed fifth-place with a school record run of 43.17.

Also scoring points for the Beacons was
Micah Jury who won his heat of the 110m Hurdles and finished in seventh place.

As a team, NCU connected for 19 points as they sit in sixth place. The previous high point total for the program was 9 and the team has never finished higher than ninth-place.

Day two of the competition will begin with the Javelin at 11:00 am and conclude with the 4x400m relay at 4:25.
