Women's Cross Country Nick Askew, Sports Information Director

It's a Three-Peat for Women's Cross Country

SALEM, Ore. – It was another remarkable moment for the NCU women's cross country team on Saturday as they walked away with their third consecutive Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship, third straight Individual CCC champion and Runner of the Year and third straight CCC Coach of the Year award for Heike McNeil. The team also set a school record with six athletes earning All-CCC honors.

Senior Sierra Brown became the back-to-back CCC Champion and Runner of the Year as she took first place, easily outpacing Southern Oregon's Jessa Perkinson who finished second. Brown beat the reigning CCC track 5000m champ by 19 seconds, running an 18:08 on the muddy course.

Next across the finish line for the Beacons was senior Shea Vallaire, posting her best conference finish ever in fourth place. Sophomore surprise Anna Brooks was sixth and senior Alyssa Harmon was seventh.

Rounding out the scoring five for the Beacons was Rosa Schmidt, claiming tenth place. The Beacons then made it six of the top-12 finishers as Michelle Fletcher came across in 12th. The top-12 runners earn All-Cascade Collegiate Conference honors.

Also running for the Beacons:

Sophomore Melissa Rios (23rd)
Senior Macie Gale (24th)
Freshman Cass Brownell (33rd)
Freshman Anika Rasubala (52nd)

NCU scored 28 points in the team competition, cruising past second-place  College of Idaho (78) and third-place Oregon Tech (80). Southern Oregon (96) and Corban (148) rounded out the top-five.

Now it will be on to the NAIA National Championships as the No. 1 ranked Beacons will look to also repeat their crown there as well. The race will be held in two weeks, on November 17.
