Beacons Dominate Record-Setting Day

The Northwest Christian University men's basketball team won their second game of the weekend on Saturday and did it in record-setting fashion as they took apart Northwest Indian College, 116-37.

NCU (2-0) owned a best-ever winning margin of 79 points and also set school records with 62 rebounds and just 15 points allowed in the second half.

The Beacons had six players score in double-figures including all five starters. Senior Jack Hackman (pictured) led the way, hitting six three-pointers on his way to a double-double. He finished with 21 points and 11 boards. Senior Jay Mayernik posted his second double-double in as many nights as he scored 19 points and 17 rebounds.

Kenny Blackwell scored 17 points, shooting 5-for-6 from the field and he also chipped in with nine assists and three steals. Brendyn Taylor scored 15, Michael Loomis added 12 and Spencer Mattox rounded out the field of double-digit Beacons with ten.

NWIC (0-2) was led by Angel King who had team-highs with ten points and four rebounds. Ronald Fisher added six points in the loss.

The Beacons will be back in action with their next regular-season game on October 20 when they travel across town to take on New Hope Christian College.  Before that, NCU will be home for a pair of scrimmages next weekend against Columbia Bible College (Canada). The teams will face off on Friday at 7 pm and Saturday at 5 pm.
