EUGENE, Ore. - The Beacons overcame a slow start and survived an uncharacteristic 23 turnovers on Thursday night to claim a 96-77 road win across town at New Hope Christian College. Sophomore
Kenny Blackwell hit six three-pointers and led NCU with 28 points.
The Beacons (3-0) shot 55% in the game including a 10-for-19 performance from three-point range. New Hope, playing an inspired game all evening, shot 38% from the field and collected 16 steals. NCU's biggest advantage came on the glass as they out-rebounded the Deacons, 49-26.
Blackwell's final line showed him shooting 8-for-12 from the field, collecting a game-high six assists.
Jay Mayernik scored 23 points in the win, shooting 8-for-11. The senior posted his third double-double of the season as he collected 14 rebounds.
Jack Hackman also had a strong shooting night, going 3-for-4 from downtown and collecting 15 points. Freshman
Kylor Kelley made his official debut, scoring nine points and six rebounds.
The Beacons will return to the court on Sunday for the annual alumni game. Then it's on to Boise State for an exhibition game on November 5.
