Gabrio Leads Beacons to CCC Win Record

EUGENE, Ore. – Senior Chandler Gabrio was 4-for-4 from three-point range and scored a season-high 18, leading the Northwest Christian University women's basketball team to a key 63-54 win over Eastern Oregon University on Friday night. The victory was NCU's ninth straight in CCC play, giving them a school-record for conference wins in a season.

Coming into the game in a three-way tie for second place, the Beacons (13-6, 9-2 CCC) moved into sole possession of second with the win. Eastern Oregon (13-8, 9-3) dropped out of the tie and into fourth place.

As has become routine for the Beacons, a two-point halftime lead was stretched in a 20-point third-quarter and the Beacons held on for the win. NCU shot 48% in the game and held the Mounties to just 29% shooting in the game. NCU won the rebounding battle, 39-32.

Gabrio finished the night shooting 6-for-7 from the field adding six rebounds to her 18 points in just 15 minutes of work off the bench. Also scoring 18 was sophomore Monique Thompson, adding eight rebounds and six assists, both team highs. Hanna Mack scored 12 points and owned four of NCU's nine blocked shots. Andrea Gloss also had four blocks along with seven rebounds and six points.

Head Coach Heath Alexander said, "Our kids out-fought and out-worked Eastern tonight. That is a very good team we beat in a tough place to play. Monique and Chandler really stepped up tonight and made huge plays for us down the stretch. I can't tell you how proud I am of this group. They earned it tonight.

The Mounties were led by Madeline Laan and Payton Parish with 14 points apiece. Nikki Osborne chipped in nine points, along with a team-high seven rebounds.

The Beacons return to action on Saturday evening, traveling to Caldwell to take on The College of Idaho at 5:30 pm local time (4:30 PST). The Yotes (4-14, 3-9) were 77-71 losers to Corban on Friday.
