Ladies Claim Eighth Straight CCC Win

EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University women's basketball team topped Multnomah on Saturday, 78-45 for their eighth consecutive Cascade Collegiate Conference victory. The win gives NCU a three-way share of second-place in the CCC at the conclusion of the first half of conference play.

The Beacons started out slow, trailing 13-9 after the first quarter and holding a slim 30-25 lead at the intermission. Another dominant 28-11 third quarter once again proved to be the difference and NCU cruised to the victory.

NCU (12-6, 8-2 CCC) shot 43% in the game and outrebounded the Lions 42-34. Multnomah (3-15, 1-9) suffered a tough shooting night, hitting on 35% of their shots while going just 2-for-12 at the free-throw line.

The Beacons had just two players in double-figures, led by 12 off the bench from Jenna Christenson (pictured). The freshman was 4-for-7 from three-point range. Sami Pitts added ten points while Andrea Gloss, Niki Duncan, Jeni Hoffert, and Monique Thompson all scored nine. Thompson produced a well-rounded night with seven assists, five steals and two blocks. Hanna Mack added six points and led all players with 11 rebounds while Chandler Gabrio was 5-for-5 at the free-throw line, scoring seven.

After the win head coach Heath Alexander said, "We started off a little slow tonight but got it going after the first quarter. Jenna gave us some great minutes and Chandler also played very well. Monique also did a great job tonight and we really fed off of her defensive intensity."

Multnomah was led by Miranda Schmillen, scoring 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting. Sadie Jenks added nine points, going 3-for-6 from three-point range.

NCU returns to action next weekend, hitting the road for more CCC action against Eastern Oregon University on Friday and The College of Idaho on Saturday.
