Beacons Wallup Walla Walla

EUGENE, Ore. – In what can only be considered their greatest road game of the season, the Northwest Christian University volleyball team swept Walla Walla University on Saturday night, 25-23, 25-10, 25-17. NCU was prolific on offense, hitting .319 as a team and committing a season-low 9 errors.

The Beacons (12-9, 5-9 CCC) had incredible offensive nights around the entire rotation. Chandler Gabrio led the way with 13 kills, hitting .478 and Carissa Allen collected 11 kills. Cassidy Winters hit .615 and went without an error on an eight-kill night for the junior. Taylor Burnett (pictured) and Kayla Ping added seven kills each.

Laurie Salness gave the Beacons 35 assists while Haley Damian collected 22 digs, the highest total for a three-set match in over two years.

Walla Walla (6-12, 3-10) was led by Lexi Shanko with nine kills. Rylee Sutton added 19 digs and Alissa Casey posted a team-high 14 assists. Emily Allen led all players with four blocks.

Head Coach Kelly Pitre said, "Tough serving and smart hitting led us to the win tonight. Walla Walla is incredibly scrappy and put out so much effort. Their defense made our hitters have to adjust and we were able to do that with a low number of unforced errors."

NCU will return home next weekend, taking on Evergreen (3-17, 3-12) on Friday night at 7:00 pm.
