Beacons Stopped by Champs, 4-0

EUGENE, Ore.  –The Northwest Christian University women's soccer team faced defending NAIA National Champion Concordia on Thursday night, falling 4-0 in the final CCC game ever between the schools.

The Cavaliers, who are making to move to NCAA Division II beginning next year, scored a pair in each half and held NCU to just two shot attempts; one apiece from seniors Karli Mast (pictured) and Mishayla Bertelsen.

CU (8-0-1, 1-0 CCC) outshot the Beacons 24-2 and took nine shots on goal, giving junior keeper Kristin Fulbright five saves.

Concordia scored first in the 10th minute on a set piece when an Ariel Kanabale free kick found the head of Shannon McMahon. McMahon's pass went to Alicia Kolter for the tap-in from five-yards.

Another set-piece gave the Cavs a 2-0 lead in the 24th minute when Kanable scored after a corner kick.

CU went on to score another two goals in the second half, punching in the insurance strikes in the 68th and 77th minutes.

Head Coach Brett Bentley said, "Concordia is just a really tough team. They've actually gotten better than they have been in the past and I give credit to coach Grant Landy and his team. They make life difficult on us tonight and we will go back to the training pitch to get sharper at everything that we do."

Northwest Christian (4-5, 0-1) will be back in Portland on Saturday as they will take on Warner Pacific College at 5 p.m. NCU defeated the Knights, 1-0 in a non-conference meeting last week.
