Beacons Can't Dig Out Win in Idaho

CALDWELL, Idaho – The Northwest Christian University volleyball team dropped a Cascade Collegiate Conference match on the road at The College of Idaho on Friday night, swept in three sets at the J.A. Albertson center, 25-14, 25-17, 25-17.

The Beacons (3-5, 1-4 CCC) were held to a flat attacking percentage as they collected 25 kills but were forced into 25 attacking errors. Much of the offensive difficulty was fueled by a strong front row presence for the Yotes that accounted for eleven blocks in the three set match.

Head Coach Kelly Rosin said, "The most important thing is that our girls never gave up. A tough match like this can be an emotional roller coaster and the team played head strong through every set. Of course it would have been nice to take a set off of them but they are an impressive, disciplined team all around. They are tough to play here and I'm glad we get to see them again at our place."

The College of Idaho (6-7, 3-1) was led by Emily Ottnger and Kylie Porter, collecting ten kills apiece as they both hit over .380. Porter led defensively as well, collecting six blocks. Katy Robinson added nine kills and Sierra Porter finished the day with team-highs of 31 assists, 12 digs, and two aces.

The Beacons were led by senior Chelsea McGowan who bucked the trend on offense, hitting .348 with eight kills and no errors. Cassidy Winters added seven kills and two blocks while Alyssa Dorr led the team with 22 assists. Kayla Ping and freshman Libero Haley Damian (pictured) each posted match-highs with 14 digs. "Our back row play was impressive tonight," said Rosin. "Haley stepped up defensively and in serve receive, we just couldn't find it in the front row. CI's block was strong and our hitters need to learn to hit around blocks like that so we can be successful."

NCU finished out the weekend at 5 p.m. on Saturday in La Grande, taking on Eastern Oregon University.
