OAKLAND, Calif. – Senior Stevie Harrison scored three goals on Monday, lifting NCU to a 7-0 victory over Mills College. It was the first of three games in Northern California in three days for the Beacons.
Â
The win comes on the heels of a tough 6-0 loss to Willamette University just three days prior. Head Coach Brett Bentley said, "I thought we responded really well to how the last game went, coming back with renewed intensity and focus. We made it very difficult for them to win the ball and do anything offensively."
Â
The chances came early and often for the Beacons as they tied a school record with 47 total shots. NCU took 20 shots-on-goal in the contest. NCU held the Cyclones to just one shot attempt, which was not on frame.
Â
Harrison got the scoring going for NCU, just 1:07 into the game with an unassisted score. Then in the 16th minute, Janelle Richards punched one home, taking the pass from Maddi Bartholomew.
Â
Harrison scored again in the 25th minute and Karlie Mast posted her first goal of the season in the 40th minute, giving the Beacons a 4-0 lead at halftime.
Â
Richards opened the second half with her second score, taking a pass from Mishayla Bertelsen. It was the second two-goal game of the season for the junior.
Â
Bartholomew got into the action herself in the 73rd minute off another Bertelsen assist and with just three minutes to play, Harrison completed the hat-trick with a goal assisted by Richards.
Â
It was the first three-goal game for a Beacon player since Melyssa Weber accomplished the feat on October 5, 2012 against Evergreen.
Â
The Beacons continue their trip on Tuesday, traveling to face the Menlo College Oaks at 3:00 pm.Â
