Box Score
SALEM, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University men's basketball team shot just 28% from the field on Friday night, falling to Corban University, 59-50 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.
The Beacons scored just 15 points before the intermission as they went 6-for-32 from the field, allowing the Warriors to take a 13-point lead into the second half. Corban continued to put on the pressure after the break, at one point leading by 24 points, but a late 9-0 run for NCU brought them to within seven points before falling by nine.
Head Coach
Corey Anderson said, “Defensively we were solid at times tonight, but we dug ourselves into a hole with our shooting. I credit Corban with their defensive pressure. It was nice to battle hard to end the game and close the gap, but a loss is a loss.”
The Beacons (8-9, 1-4 CCC) were led by
Jordan Buhler, scoring 20 points and nine rebounds.
Brody McGowan also came close to a double-double with ten points and nine boards.
Jordan Myers (pictured) came off the bench to score 13 points for NCU, hitting a trio of three-pointers.
NCU has recently had difficulties on the glass but seemed to turn that around on Friday as they were only out-rebounded 37-36. The Beacons collected 15 offensive boards and held the Warriors to just six. Northwest Christian also continues to do a good job taking care of the ball, turning the ball over just eight times while forcing Corban into 19 giveaways. NCU held a 26-6 edge in points off turnovers.
Corban (10-7, 2-3) was led by Erik Cronrath, scoring 26 points on 9-for-10 shooting. Jordan Carter added 11 points and 9 rebounds while Jacob Kopra also scored eleven. Neither team went very deep into the bench as the Beacon reserves outscored the Corban bench, 14-6.
Northwest Christian University will be back in action on January 6th when they travel to Le Grande to face 23rd-ranked Eastern Oregon (10-5, 3-3) at 7:30 pm.
