Owls Climb Back to Top NCU

Box Score
ASHLAND, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University women's basketball team led by five points late in the game but a six-point Oregon Tech run would give the lead back to the home team as the Owls hung on to defeat the Beacons in CCC action, 63-56.

Both defenses proved tough to penetrate as NCU was held to just 32.3% from the floor and Oregon Tech just 32.1% shooting. OIT held a 53-30 advantage on the boards, including 19 on the offensive end. The Beacons shot 13-for-16 from the free-throw line but the Owls were 9-for-10 down the stretch to seal the victory.

Head Coach Liz Turner-Bolton said, “We took OIT out of their rhythm in the second half, but the bottom line is we didn't shoot well. They hit shots when they needed them down the stretch and we didn't.”

The Owls (9-1, 2-0 CCC) were led by Aundrea Albright with 12 points and five rebounds, followed by Carrie Thibault with eleven, including a pair of crucial three-pointers late in the game. Karissa Dixon had a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds and Rebekah Matteri netted eight points off the bench. The Oregon Tech reserves out-scored the Beacon bench, 23-5.

The Beacons (7-6, 0-2) were led by Lindsey Shearer, scoring 16 points, six rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Shannon Harte (pictured) scored 12 points and also pulled down six rebounds and Katie Collins added ten.

NCU will be back in action on Friday night when they play host to William Jessup University at 5:30 pm.
